Music Distribution on the Web: Create Buzz, Sell CDs!
Introduction to Online Music Distribution
Live365.com

of How
to Promote Your Music on the
Internet.
According
to Arbitron, whose core business
is measuring radio audiences
across the U.S., Live365.com
is the Internet's largest radio
broadcasting network. Live365.com
logs an average of three million
unique visitors, and 9.7
million listener hours per month.
As
with SHOUTcast,
you can find any number of broadcast
stations, many of which are
set up by individuals, who will
consider your music. The top
Indie Rock station, ModernRock.com,
for example, logged over 33,000
listening hours in July
2003 and will promote unsigned
bands - and that's just one
of 627 stations (as of this
writing) which classify themselves
at Live365 as “Indie Rock.”
Find those stations that are
popular in your genre and drop
them a line. You have an open
door to getting some Internet
radio play here which may in
turn, lead to more sales of
your CDs. Speaking of which,
Live365.com is hooked directly
into Amazon.com.
So, if you're selling CDs at
Amazon, when someone clicks
on ‘Buy' at a Live365 station,
they'll be taken right to where
they can purchase your CD.
Both
SHOUTcast and Live365.com provide
you with tools to set up and
run your own broadcast station
if you wish. With SHOUTcast,
you need your own server from
which to broadcast your music.
With Live365.com, however, you
can host your music directly
on Live365.com's servers,
so all you need to do is create
and upload your MP3 files. Costs
start as $7.45 per month for
a very basic station. If you
have a big enough budget, you
can run a PRO station where
you set up your own “Buy” buttons
and feed your own banner ads.
See
How
to Broadcast for information
on how to set up your own Live365
station.
